Welcome to the first game of a new GOTM era.

This game must be played with version 1.09 of Civilization IV.

C-IV Gotm I: Rome

The city of Rome was founded on the Tiber River in 753 BC. Initially ruled by Kings, the last King, Tarquin the Proud, was forced to flee with his family to Etruita in 509 BC, following an uprising caused by a despicable act of rape by the King's son on a noblewoman.

In the aftermath, elections were held to choose a new ruler, and two consuls were voted-in as the Chief Officers of the new republic. The role of the consuls was to lead the armies and the senate. In the years following, the influence of Rome expanded through conquest of neighbouring city-states. Soon, the republic had grown too large to be controlled; corrupt provincial governers would accumulate wealth, and military commanders needed only the loyalty of their troops to rule over vast areas of land. Eventually, the republic collapsed into civil-war. In 31 BC, Augustus Caeser established the form of government that would later be regarded as the Roman Empire, with himself as its first Emperor Of Rome.

There are a lot of parallels between the early rise of the Rome that can be mirrored in Civilization. Will you show the cunning required to bend the senate to your will, and replicate one of the greatest empires in human civilization?
