Welcome to the second game of a new GOTM era.

This game must be played with version 1.52 of Civilization IV.

C-IV Gotm II: England

In the first Civ4 GOTM, we played as the Roman Empire on a continents map. In that game, we had an introduction to the Expansionist and Organised traits, as well as to the power of a very strong unique Unit, the Praetorian.

Starting on a continent with only one neighbour sharing it made for a game where there was a strong benefit to be had in getting to astronomy early, in order to meet (and conquer!) the rest of the world.

In this months' game, the Lakes map will hopefully mean that there are more choices to be made, especially in terms of the research path, as the naval (and exploration) techs are not such a strong enabler. The philosophical and financial traits of the leader, Elizabeth are very strong. The english Unique Unit, the redcoat, is also strong, although it comes much later than the praetorian.

The other major change in this game is the game length - Epic as opposed to normal - and of course, the difficulty has been stepped-up a notch as well.
