Historic Zulu Impis

The Zulu Impis of the mid to late 19th century were highly organized and disciplined military units that represented the pinnacle of development in tribal warfare. In documented recent history, the Zulu Impi provides us with an easily identifiable reference that evokes what the organized barbarians may have seemed like to Roman Soldiers of the Empire and Republic periods.

  • The Barbarian Impi Puzzler

The question that the Impis can help you answer is directly related to Rome in this game.

You may not be able to find all the pieces of the puzzle since some of the Impis could get killed before you see their names. You can use the Impi name list to help you figure out the important piece to watch for.

There is only one Zulu Impi name that you may encounter which should not be in the list and that name has no relationship to the puzzle.

The puzzle has no impact on or relationship to playing a good game of Civilization III but for some players it may add a little bit of enjoyment. It is probably not possible for a below average Civ3 player to find enough of the clues to lead to finding the answer to the puzzle. So every player should be encouraged to play there best Roman game first and then go hunting thrills on the barbarian frontiers.

SPOILER RULE: Regardless of when you find the pieces of the answer to the Zulu Impi puzzle or If you figure out the answer to the question, please do not reveal these things until the final spoiler thread for Gotm16-Rome has been opened. You may freely discuss the Zulu Impi barbarians and their historic names in the spoiler threads, but try to be sensitive to not revealing their exact location too early and also not spoiling the puzzle for other players who may still be enjoying the hunt for few missing clues.

As soon as you think you have found the answer to the puzzler, you may email your version of the question and your predicted answer to cracker to have your name listed in the game results along with the date of the month and the year inside your game when you figured out the answer.
