Conquest 18: Timurids

Timur was born in 1336 AD in what is now Shakrisabz, not far from Samarqand, the city he elected as capital of his empire.

Timur lenk, so named for his deformity, dreamt of repeating the feats of Genghiz Khan and establishing an everlasting empire over the immense plains and mountains of Central Asia.

His dream of empire began when he led his army against Khorasan and Eastern Persia. He would reach as far as Delhi, Aleppo, Damascus, Baghdad.
Tamerlane was known mainly for the pyramids of skulls that symbolised the savagery of his military campaign, in which he certainly rivalled his Mongol predecessor.

As much as he massacred and pillaged the conquered civilizations, so he also fostered art, literature and science.

The great city of Samarqand was adorned with fabulous constructions covered with gold and brilliant turquoise tiles made by handicraft workers from Isfahan, Baghdad, Shiraz, Damascus and India.

Timur died in 1405 while preparing a full-scale attack on Qitai.

Will you pick up his dreams of glory and lead your people to rule the world, or will you follow the path of arts and science instead?

Scope of the Game:

Goody Huts: Goody huts have caused some game balance issues previously, where some players have got settlers or cities from goody huts, and some have missed-out. The game rules have been modified so that a hut that would have given a settler will instead give a worker (as discovered by Roland Ehnström and TimBentley ).
