Welcome to the 158th Conquests Game of the Month. This game was created by Più Freddo.
In this game, we play at Deity level as Smoke-Jaguar of the Mayans. The Mayans are an Agricultural and Industrious tribe and start the game with knowledge of Masonry and Pottery. The Mayan Unique Unit is the Javelin Thrower, an Archer replacement with an increased defensive strength at 2, a higher cost at 30 shields and a one-third chance at each victorious battle to enslave the losing unit, creating a Slave Worker. More about Javelin Throwers and Workers below!
We have gotten a few concessions to facilitate early survival, I hope suitable for all players at all experience and skill levels:
- We start with three extra Javelin Throwers. We should use them wisely.
- Smoke-Jaguar himself, with stats as a regular Warrior, takes part in the game. He is on a recce, see picture below.
- We possess Alphabet as a monopoly.
- Some other tribes have gotten an extra Worker.
- Our people are mining for gems in the mountains.
There are also a few rule changes in this game, in addition to the normal rule changes we always make:
- Chinese Riders move 2 instead of 3 tiles per turn.
- Workers, on the other hand, move 2 tiles per turn instead of 1.
- Javelin Throwers have two extra hitpoints.
- The Temple of the Sun replaces The Statue of Zeus and creates Javelin Throwers instead of Ancient Cavalry. It is now a Militaristic and Industrious Wonder.
- Flood Plains do not cause Disease
- Jungles and Wetland have their Disease level lowered from 50% to 25%
- Knowledge of Sanitation cancels Disease in Jungles and Wetlands
Remember that Barbarians are pretty dastardly at Deity level. Protect yourself!
The normal changes to the Conquests rules apply to this game: Iron locations are fixed, and Workers instead of Settlers can be popped from Goody Huts. In addition to this, the following changes have been made to terrain causing Disease in order to limit the impact of chance on the competition:

Special notes for C3C
NoAIPatrol Setting: There has been a lot of discussion regarding the barb behavior in C3C and how the NoAIPatrol flag controls that behavior. For the COTM competition it is highly recommended that all players set the NoAIPatrol flag to 0 to permit fairly consistent barb behavior across all player's games. This is done by opening the "conquests.ini" file in your favorite editor, adding the line "NoAIPatrol=0" to it, and saving.
