The Tales of AgedOnerabi
AgedOnerabi taunted the mighty Xerxes and lived to tell about it. At least he
lived as long as it took to get to 1000bc.

4000 Worker
showed fishing grounds.
Decided to move Settler SE before building.
3950 Started
mining on the cow. Built
Babylon. Started
researching WarriorCode with rates set to 1.9.0
3700 First
Warrior produced. Started on another. Warrior
#1 headed N.
3650 Mine
finished. Started road on cow. Warrior
#1 returned to avoid civil disorder.
3600 2nd
warrior out. Started building 1st settler. Warrior #1 headed N (again).
3500 Settler
finished Rd. Moved thru Babylon and out to NE to Rd&Irr there. Warrior
#1 continued N, revealing gems in Mnts to NE.
3450 Babylon's
borders expanded, revealing Dyes to SW. Warrior
#1 continued N, but not looking promising. Where to build city 2?
3400 Warrior's
N run reveals Game in forest not far from Gems seen earlier.
(Maybe a city to
cover both, and another to get dyes to SW.)
3350 Now
a hut appears on the N travels, and Flood plains.
3300 Popped
the hut. Pottery. Worker
moved N ready to irr the Wheat.
3250 Started
irrigating Wheat. Warrior
moved NW, game and river showed up.
3200 Warrior
moved N onto game. A green civ border shows up.
3150 Settler
#1 built. Start on warrior. Settler
moves to join worker. Xerxes
is my neighbour. Annoyed. Already has 3 cities. And
Masonry, Warrior Code to my Pottery. He will swap Warrior Code and 10gold for
my Pottery. I'm due to get WarriorCode in 6 turns, so don't really consider
this a good swap, but take it to make him Cautious instead of Annoyed. Histogram
shows Persia 158, Babylon 88. Hmm.
3050 Settler
reaches location. Worker completes irr, begins road. Now
researching Alphabet.
3000 Build
Ur. Begin Warrior in Ur. Exploring
Warrior reveals desert to N.
2950 Babylon
produces Warrior and begins Settler #2. Venerable
Bede produces history of most advanced nations: - Japan, Zulu, China, Persia, India. Then me. I'm 'pathetic', apparently. New
warrior moves off W towards the dyes. Warrior
#1 continues Eastward, far to the North.
2850 Warrior
#3 reaches land's end amongst the dyes. Fish there, too. Definitely a city
location. Spoke
to Xerxes again. Only 5 turns later, but he's up to
4 cities, and has Wheel and Mysticism now. Annoyed again. I give him 8 gold
as a pacifier, but he's still annoyed.
2800 Xerxes
has started on the Oracle. Warrior
#1 finds a hut as the desert comes to an end away to the NE.
2750 Ur produces Warrior #4.
Starts on settler. Warrior
#1 pops the hut. Deserted. Whoopee. Does show a location with Incense and
Wheat, which may come in useful.
2710 The
road to Ur is complete. Begin irr by Ur. Warrior
#3 pushes N from dyes revealing game.
2550 Settler
#2 out of Babylon. Moves SW toward dyes. Start building 1st Bowman.
Worker
moves off to begin roading to dye city.
2470 Xerxes
plants Tarsus just N of Ur. I'm starting to get hemmed in.
Warrior #1 finds grasslands to the E.
Warrior
#3 finds cattle up the W coast - but very near Persia. Danger
of culture-flip up there.
2430 Warrior
#3 reports its 2 cows, not just 1, but my earlier remarks still apply.
2390 Build
Nineveh at land's end. Start Warrior #5 there.
2310 Ur produces Settler #3, who
moves E toward the grasslands. Ur begins Bowman #2.
2270 Babylon
produces Bowman #1 and starts on Worker #2.
2190 Xerxes
has started the Colossus now. Greedy.
2150 Babylon
produces Worker #2 and begins Granary. (20 turns. Seems like a lot of time to
waste, but...)
2110 Build
Ashur on S shores. They start on Warrior #6.
2070 Alphabet
comes up. Start on Writing (but should I lower the science rate and get money
instead?) Warrior
#1 exploring far to the E finds a hut. Warrior
#3 (cow-finder) now spots that Xerxes has cut off our route to the cows
anyway, by building Bactra in the way. Speak
to Xerxes again. He's up to 8 cities and has IronWorking now. Still Annoyed.
The beginning of the end? I
decide that money is useful and set my rate to 9.1.0 for +10 per turn.
2030 I
pop the hut. Maps Notice
that Horses are NW of Babylon, others are in Persia, or very far away to the E.
1990 Nineveh
produces Warrior #5. Starts a worker. Pause
for a moment. Histograms show Xerxes 340, Babylon 173. We
have absolutely no resources yet! Our military is weak. Demographics puts us
5th or 6th on everything
important.
1950 Ur produces Bowman #2 and
begins Settler #4.
Thucydides
checks our Wealth: India, Babylon (38), Persia, Zulu, Japan, China.
1910 Speak
to Xerxes. He's up to 9 cities and now has HorseRiding. He won't swap anything - unless I want Mysticism for
all my current 50 gold and all my future 12 gold
per turn. Maybe not. He's cautious still.
1930 The
first Dyes have reached Babylon! Celebrate!
1725 Ashur
produces its Warrior (#6) and begins a Worker.
1700 Warrior
finds the N shores of our continent, away to the E. The
cow-loving and now trapped warrior 3 watches as Persians build cities by the
cows. Spoke
to Xerxes. Wanted all my current and future funds for anything. Officially
'Cautious'. I gave him a present of 30, and he became 'Polite'.
Decided
to go back on to science for a while. Set to 0.10.0 until Writing comes up.
1675 The
Oracle is completed in Persepolis.
1650 Ur produces Settler #4 and
begins a Barracks. The Settler and a Bowman start moving into position to
catch the Horses and Game NW of Babylon. Nineveh
produces its worker and begins a Bowman.
1625 Xerxes
pops up and demands 23gold for my survival. I pay, of course.
Babylons's
Granary is up, and they start on the next Settler (#6).
NB
Set rate to 1.9.0 to avoid a small loss.
1575 Built
Ellipi on the W shore N of Nineveh to get Game and Horses.
Started
work on Temple. Need culture help.
Workers
finished on roading to Nineveh and moved to road in Ellipi and Horses.
1475 Babylon
produces Settler #6 and begins Barracks.
Ashur produces its Worker and begins Bowman.
The
Ashur worker starts helping with the road to Ashur from Babylon.
The
new Settler moves E down this road to head E of Ashur.
1400 The
Horse road is complete. The workers move of to Irr from Babylon to
Ellipi.
1375 Zimbabwe gets
the Pyramids.
A
warrior leaves Babylon to follow the Settler to its new home.
1350 One
of my wandering warriors has to cross Persian territory. An annoyed Xerxes
asks us to leave. I notice he's now up to 12 cities. I slip him 25gold and
he's happy with me again.
1325 Ur has a Barracks, so a
Bowman begins training.
1300 Persia begins
work on The Great Lighthouse.
1275 Babylon has a
Barracks now, and starts some Bowmen there.
Bapedi
gets the Colossus.
Writing
comes up and I go for Literature. Surely the Gt Library will go before I can
get there...
Use
virtually all my funds setting up an embassy with Persia. 118 gold and Despotism.
Have a squint at Persepolis. 10 production per turn. Even better when Settlers
are only 18 shields. That's Deity AI for you. Also, it's a size 6 city and
only has to amass 12 food to grow!
Ellipi's
finished its Temple and begins a Settler, since it's growing well.
Persia has
begun work on the Gt Lighthouse (again).
Sort
out the economy set to 9.1.0. Making 13/turn, but Literature
is 40 turns away.
1225 Build
Akkad way
over to the E, catching incense and gold in its initial radius.
Start
a Temple there.
1200 Ur produces its Bowman, and
starts a much-needed Temple. Need to expand to catch the Gems. Luckily, Temple is only
6 turns away.
Xerxes
is still amazingly happy with me. Perhaps the embassy has shown him just how
pitiful Babylon is.
1175 Babylon
produces Bowman and starts work on Settler.
1150 Nineveh
produces Bowman and start a Worker.
1075 Persia wander a few units into my land, nonchalant but
coordinated.
Xerxes
is cautious.
I
try buttering him up, offering my territory map and a few
gold as presents, before asking him to remove his troops. I should
know better. He declares. Goodbye world!
I
try to attack some of his forces between Babylon and Ur using a Bowman out of Babylon, but he
loses to a Spearman. I start moving Bowmen into defensive positions. I switch
the production of Settlers in Babylon and Ellipi to Bowmen.
1050 Strangely,
the Persians don't hit me right off, they capture a worker by Ur, which was unavoidable and move everything towards
Ellipi.
I
rush Bowmen out of Ashur and Nineveh (this one a switch from the Worker it was producing)
nbsp; Try
hitting the Archer stationed outside Ellipi with my Bowman, but loses. Other
Bowmen arriving in defensive positions.
1025 Xerxes
Archer hits Ur, but my Bowman defends. Golden Age begins.
My
people start getting the Palace up, while there's still time.
I
lose a Bowman outside Ellipi, but generally the Persians have pulled back.
Why?
1000 The
war is on! 3 Archers, Spearman and warrior outside Ellipi. Further back are 2
Horsemen and a spearman. Defending it I have 3 Bowmen. 2 More are on the move
but only one of them will reach it next turn. Looks dodgy. Xerxes won't talk,
of course. The
Histograph shows Persia 750 to Babylon's 303. Babylon
consists of 6 cities.
I
have a mighty military of 6 Warrior and 7 Bowmen.
...
But I'm still up and kicking at 1000BC...
