Mighty Controlfreakarabi

Controlfreakarabi taunted the mighty Xerxes and lived to tell about it. At least he lived as long as it took to get to 1000bc.

Starting Position RevealedBabylon yeah! Deity boo!  I think this is my first game past regent.  Nothing like a forced learning curve.

4000BC Move worker to cow south.  See coast and really tempted to move settler to it.  But.  Settler will be on the wrong side of river for fast movement.  Since this is my first deity game, and every turn I get farther behind AI, I found at starting point.  Start Alphabet towards writing, mapmaking and literature.  I'll be farmer gambit for a while.  Warriors for exploring and MP.  Sci at 20% is minimum science.

3950BC Start irrigating cow.

3800BC Warrior built, Settler ordered.  Start exploring E.

3750BC Irrigation done, start road.  Luxuries to 10% for extra citizen.

3700BC Gems discovered in mountains.  Warrior hits coast, will bend N.

3650BC Keep warrior going N

3600BC Warrior N.

3550BC Road done. Worker to bonus grassland E.

3500BC Borders expand.  See dyes and goody huts.  Mine bonus grassland E.

3450BC flood plain with 3 wheat NE of capitol!.  I have GOT to settle here.

3400BC Warrior N.

3350BC Babylon built settler>warrior for MP and protection. Settler sent to Flood plain S of river, NW of mountains for combination food/shields.  Warrior N.

3300BC Realize I should be at 10/0 sci +4gpt with 1 citizen after settler was built.  Wasted gold. Warrior N.

3250BC Warrior N.

3200BC Worker built mine, start road.  Warrior N, finds green border.

3150BC Warrior N into border.  It is Parsargae (Persian) guarded by ELITE SPEAR.  X-man has pottery, masonry and warrior code.  We trade burial +20g for pottery so I can build granaries soon.  He also has Susa and capitol for a total of 3 cities to my 1 city +settler.  Parsargae has 2 gems within site.  See another green border to the west.  Choose to go E away from Xman.  Boy, are we tight here.  Hope that land opens up to the south somewhere and I can grab a few city sites.

3100BC See a bunch of units leave Parsargae to the E.  Babylon Warrior>settler. (skip granary because I don't think I have time with Persia so close and there's plenty of food here with 2 bonuses.)  Settler is now 1 square away.  Warrior heads E and boy does Xman have a lot of bonus grassland and grass.  Bummer.  Warrior fortifies for defense and MP in Babylon.

3050BC Persian units were a settler/warrior pair that now head SE.  Warrior E.  Move Worker to Wheat NE of mine.

3000BC Persian Settler/Warrior moves E.  Warrior Shadows.  Ur founded at last>worker.  Start Irrigating Babylon wheat.

2950BC Persian Settler/Warrior moves E.  Warrior Shadows.

2900BC Persian Settler/Warrior move S.  Warrior continues E.  Sees another Persian spear on mountain (no settler).  Xman has mysticism now (research or hut?).

2850BC 10% Lux to keep Babylon happy.

2800BC Persians start pyramid.  Worker Starts Road on Wheat.  Warrior finds E coast?

2750BC Ur built Settler>warrior for MP.  Settler sent toward Dyes since we need lux and we can stay on the river.  Need to explore more near capital to find more city sites.  Warrior confirms Coast.  Is it Northern shore or Eastern Shore?  Lux to 20% for happiness in Ur, +5gpt.  Alphabet in 15.

2710BC Warrior E.

2670BC MM-food Ur.  Worker to bonus grass NE of Babylon for non river crossing road. Warrior E.

2630BC Road grass.  Warrior at shore, S.  Settler sees coast and moves to dye on coast/river.

2590BC Babylon warrior>settler.  Nivea founded on dyes>worker.  Warrior in Babylon heads north.  for exploration before going to ur.  E warrior S. Luxuries to 50%!  Xman now has wheel also.

2550BC Ur worker>settler. W Warrior N, E Warrior S.  Spear spotted on E coast. Lux to 30.  Arbela and Antioch added to bring Persian city total to 5.  Now think to check Space Race and see Persia, Zulu, India, China and Japan.  Hope I can find them soon.  Let's see.  Zulu is the only expansionist.  Persians share scientific with us.  (Why do we have to be on their land.  Damn culture linking.)  India and Japan share our religious trait. Japan, China and Zulus are militaristic.  India is the only commercial civ.

2470BC W Warrior N one tile from hut, E Warrior S.

2430BC Green Spear poaches hut N of Babylon.  Green borders appear 2 tiles from our border!  W Warrior N, E Warrior W (found coast)  Lux to 50.  We are running out of room in a hurry.  Poached hut gave Xman alphabet.   Tarsus and Gordium added to Persian empire.  Crap!  W Warrior N, E Warrior W see 2 incense.

2390BC Persian spear/warrior come within 1 tile of Ur border.  Babylon settler>warrior. Hope they're not sneak attacking.  W Warrior turns around and heads for Ur.  E Warrior W.

2270BC Ashur founded S of Game (spear/warrior walked by settler so don't think they'll attack).  Order Temple to get at gems.  MM Ur to grab game made available by extra city border.  E Warrior W see goodie hut.  Tempted to grab it but afraid of barbs.  Maybe they'll head to Persia.  80% lux for Ur until warrior arrives.  Xman learned Iron Working too.  Man I got behind in a hurry.  At least no new cities.

2230BC Since Lux tax is so high anyway for Ur, Babylon’s warrior not needed for MP and heads to pop hut and prays for no barbs.  MM Babylon to shields saving 2 wasted food. Lux tax to 50%

2190BC Babylon warrior>settler.  Niv worker>same.  Persians start Colossus in Antioch.  Warriors in cities fortify.  E Hut is deserted.  At least no barbs.

2150BC Alphabet learned >writing. hut N of Babylon makes barbs of course.  Babylon warrior moved to cover worker.  Start clearing jungle on dye tile.  Start mine on mountain near ur. E Warrior NW.  Want to settle near gold/incense in grassland to the east but doubt I'll get to it.

2110BC Warrior survives barb at 2/3.  Other 2 barbs move toward Babylon.  Thankfully worker is done with road on mine, he moves south to start road to dyes out of reach of barbs.  warrior covering worker moves to Babylon and fortifies.  injured warrior S toward workers.  Exploring warrior W. toward home.  Mental note.  farmer gambit does not permit goodie hut popping near home.

2070BC Barbs attack Babylon.  We win at 2/3.  We lose to second without taking a single HP.  Kills a citizen.  Actually, this may be the best thing at this point.  Babylon has two food bonuses if necessary and can regrow citizen in 4 turns.  Babylon should grow enough population (1 more citizen) to build its settler without wasting shields.  Our people erect a memorial that looks a lot like a porch, infront of my hovel.  90%lux for happiness in UR.  (going to need more MP or entertainer here soon.)  Wounded warrior returns to Babylon to heal and protect.  Explorer S to bust mountain fog and find place for next city if possible.

2030BC Warrior S.

1990BC Warrior SE onto mountain.

1950BC Warrior S along mountain ridge. There is a lot of nice grassland here.  Worker finishes river road starts mine for Nivea.

1910BC Ur settler>worker.  Settler E, explorer E.  Luxuries to 10/20/70 +12gpt.  Trade 8gpt +72g to get Warrior Code.  Probably not going for iron (could afford this anyway) or horses but at the rate Xman is expanding, I need to build a stronger unit.  And I don't have much choice in city sites if I wound up without a resource anyway.  Warrior Code makes our UU possible and could allow an early GA to let me try to stay competitive.

1870BC Explorer and settler E.  Dang, realize in MM that I should have stolen wheat last turn to get growth and settler on same turn in Babylon.  Lots of wasted shields next turn.  I guess barbs hurt you worse if you compound their plunder with stupid actions of your own.  Whip temple in Ashur.  I should have done this a lot of turns ago.  Need to start other things.  Realize I've been very on workers.  17turns till jungle clear.  16 turns till mountain mine.  I Guess Ur needs extra shields to match all that food but its taking forever.

1830BC Explorer N, Settler E.  Lux to 50 for Ur. -4gpt because of trade but at least Xman wont kill me for a few more turns.

1790BC Babylon settler>barracks preparing for inevitable onslaught.  Niv worker>warrior. Settler NE, explorer N.  Xman:  Bactra has been added to cities.  Also gained writing.  Now he's annoyed.  Uh oh.

1750BC Explorer N.  Settler NE.  Settler E.  Worker to road to Ashur.

1725BC Ur worker>settler.  Worker W of Babylon finishes mine and moves to dyes to help clear.  E Settler and warrior NE (found next turn?).  S Settler E to jungle on coast, see whale but already past the founding site to claim it.  Sci/lux at 10/20 +0.  Ur worker moves to join friend in mtns.

1700BC Explorer NE but doesn't see anything worth pressing forward for.  Settler founds Elipi>worker.  Mtn mine gets help.  Jungle clear gets help.  Lux to 50 for Ur.

1675BC Ashur worker>granary.  Worker starts irrigating plains SW of Ashur.  Ashur worker moves to help.  Now all workers paired up.  Settler NE toward next coastal hill.  Explorer N.

1650BC 2nd worker starts helping irrigation near Ashur.  explorer return to Elipi for MP/def.  Exploring is pretty much done: Coastline to South (read "rock") and Green borders all along North (read "Hardplace").  Wait until MapMaking and buy from Persia to get better view of world.  MM-shields in Ur to get settler in 8 instead of 15, grow in 5 instead of 2 (already losing gpt on luxuries for this town.  Realize mountain is wrong one mined, should have been one on river for +1gpt.  But will help with connection to capital once roaded.  Mine due in 1, irrigation due in 2 and jungle clear in 4.

1625BC Mtn workers start road due in 5.  Akkad founded on hill in middle of bonus grassland. Starts barracks.  Must have misclicked on MM Ur cause now there's an entertainer.  fix.

1600BC Irrigated, road starts, due in 2.  MM-shield Ur again to save food on growth turn.  loss of gold (not working river tile anymore) forces 80% lux tax -7gpt.  Next turn growth will get an entertainer here.

1575BC Warrior fortifies in Elipi.  Ur hires clown.  Lux down 10/20 +4gpt.  Sidon, Tyre Sardis and Samaria added since last diplo.  Ugh.  Still can't trade for anymore tech so looks like its going to be warrior or bowmen as DEFENDERS.  Xman has writing but no contacts available.  Great, its just the two of us.  And the land can't go much farther north since Xman is rapidly building right toward me.  I hope I get writing soon so I can put together my will and testament.

1550BC Road in Ashur done.  Move workers SE to start Gems road.  Jungle cleared.  Start Road to connect Dyes to capital and Ashur.

1525BC Nineva warrior>barracks.  Ashur workers start irrigation/road.  Nineva warrior N to clear fog and see nearest Persian city before returning for MP.

1500BC Borders expand.  Babylon barracks>warrior.  Nineva workers complete road>mine.  Warrior N.  Ur workers finish road>move to game for connecting road.  three Persian spear/warriors are moving south between Ellipi and Ur.  Hopefully just exploring.  also hope settlers are faraway still.

1475BC Ur workers start forest road.  Ashur workers done irrigating>road. Warrior N.

1450BC Babylon warrior>settler.  Ur Settler>settler. Ellipi worker, worker.  Persians complete the pyramids.  Ellipi new worker to incense to connect before starting road back home.  Send Ur Settler NE along river to found in floodplain 2NE + 1E of Ur.  Since Persian spears just passed through, I'll guess no barbs and if Persia wants a war I might as well surrender anyway.  New warrior heads to Ashur for MP.  Nineva warrior N.  Back to 10/50 -4gpt to fire entertainer in Ur.  Pay WM +74g to get TM.  I couldn't afford the WM.  (Realize that Persia has map making for me to have traded.)  Wow.  we really are on a small island.  Looks like it will be a race to grab the last few city spots.  Must seriously think about rushing stuff.  Not in Ashur since that was just rushed 14 turns ago.

1425BC Nineveh workers done roading and move to Babylon for work there.  Warrior fog busting turn around, head back to Nineveh.  Road starts on Incense in Ellipi.  Ashur Warrior fortifies.

1400BC Ur workers to River wheat.  Think I will mine this since another 5 food square will still require 4 turns per growth.  Gems start road.  Babylon roaded grass starts mine along river.  Other goto moves continue.  Lux down 10/20 +7gpt.

1375BC Uruk founded W of Ellipi wheat>worker.  Start irrigating 2nd wheat at Ur.  (Just not natural to mine it.) Sci to 50% for Akkad.  Switch Akkad to worker to eliminate unhappiness and start improvements that will reduce %lux needed.  Trade WM for TM just to get some trade going.

1350BC Babylon settler>bowman.  Ur loses 1 pop to disease.  This will be a perpetual problem.  Akkad worker>barracks.  Colossus built by Indians.  Settler to Jungle by whale.  Ellipi Worker finishes road to incense and leaves without further improvement (:smoke:?) to start irrigating floodplain/road toward home (SE of town).  10/0 +21gpt (note that our gpt deal ran out so Persia is free to kill me now).  Fix that by trading WM 13gpt +33g for wheel.  Thankfully a horse appears N+NW from Babylon.  Writing in 14.  With death of cit in Ur, we're making +7foodpt in Ur so growth next turn.

1325 Ur loses another citizen.  Babylon wkrs NW toward horse.  Ellipi wrkr starts irrigation. Ur starts road. Akkad starts mine.  Ashur steals game tile to save some lost food in Ur on growth turn.  Babylon steals wheat from Ashur to grow in 2 instead of 3.

1300 Babylon wkrs start irrigating plains.

1275 Persian spear/warrior disappear from Ur into fog.  Galley appears in west.  Gem road completes> wkrs E to road to SE cities.  Eridu founded on jungle tile N of whale>temple.  Will whip this in ten turns.  Should probably have this as the next build in all towns except capital who needs to be building bowmen and warriors.

1250 FP is option now.  Irrigation in Babylon done>road.  Uruk Road start (to get connected, will irrigate next).  Eridu road starts on hill. Make extra cit in Uruk a sci and drop sci to 0 (note that this extra cit would be generating 1g or 2 food) making scientist gains 3gpt.

1225 Babylon bowman>warrior.  Wake Babylon warrior and send to Akkad.  Fortify Bow.  Ellipi wrkr starts road on irrigated flood plain.  MM-food Ur.  Settler due in 1 +6food.  Switch Nineva to temple.  Had a change of heart.  We're going to try to put a temple in every city and take nearby cities with culture.  Babylon will still build bows for defense/threat.  Akkad changed to temple also.

1200 Ur Settler>settler.  Ellippi wrkr>temple, wrkr joins other.  Uruk connected, workers start irrigation.  Ur settler heads for forest SW of game, N of Dyes.  This will be our last first ring city until Gordium is   Babylon wkrs move to horse to connect just incase we get HBR anytime soon.  Now that we're connected, Uruk fires scientist.  back to 10/0 +11 (lost 2 gpt firing scientist but Uruk growth doubles).  Hammadan added to Persian cities.

1175 Babylon warrior>bow.  Warriors shift Babylon to Ashur, Ashur to Ur, Ur to Uruk.  Road crew in Eridu finish and Move E.  Miner in Akkad done, starts road.  Ellipi wkrs (out of sync) finish road and start moving to wheat W.  Babylon horse road begins.

1150 Nineva temple>barracks.  Uruk irrigation done, move SW for more flood plain work.  Wrkrs start last road segment to Akkad. Warriors fortify in new homes.  Ashur steal wheat from Babylon again for growth in 1 and not wasting shields on granary in 1.  Ur gets game given up by Ashur when taking wheat.  Notice that Persia found an island SW of Nineva and has a city on it (green borders in water).  This will have culture overlap with Nineva.  I could get WM for 4gpt but since my existing deal has 12 turns left I'll wait.  It's not like I can sail anywhere yet.

1125 Chariots possible, nice for retreat but basically like a warrior.  Build some for faster response to small threats?  Ashur granary>barracks.  Uruk wrkr>temple.  New worker joins 2 on wheat.  Irrigation starts there.  Horse workers move to grassland SW of Babylon.  Babylon grabs wheat to save on 1 shield loss, gain 2food.  Ashur loses wheat, takes game, Ur goes back to flood wheat.

1100 Babylon bow>temple.  Bow sent to soon-to-be-new city by game.  Mine starts SW of Babylon.  Sammara founded autoclearing forest>temple.  Need irrigation here for growth but can use game and steal grass tiles for now.  Uruk wheat finishes irrigation starts two wrkrs on road.  Akkad temple whipped.  Akkad road done, wrkr sent to BG N of town.  Eridu rd done, start mine.

1075 Akkad temple>barracks.  Game to Ur, wheat to Ashur.  Can get HBR for 12gpt+81g.  Not yet.

1050 Borders expand at Nineva, disease strikes Uruk.  Irrigate more flood plain.  Fortify bowman in Samara.  Ur wrkrs finish and move to floodplain SW of town.  Babylon miners start road.  Eridu wkrs finish and move to plains SW of gems.

1025 Think I missed a turn changes somewhere here.

1000 Writing Done>literature for libraries.  Embassy for 37g.  See palace, barracks, temple and pyramids in Persepolis.  Tons of rivers and grass.  4 Gems and horses.  I don't see Iron but I'm not sure I can see that since I don't have IW.  Babylon temple>bow.  Ellipi roads.  Ellipi steals wheat, Uruk still grows next turn.  Ur mm-food. but keeps game.
