version 0.0.0 last updated on December 19, 2003

This is a C3C Game Of The Month. It MUST be played in Conquests Patch version 1.22f.

Civ3 COTM I: Hittite

Deriving from Greek for 'between the rivers', the name 'Mesopotamia' refers to the fertile regions located between the Tigres and Euphrates rivers, in the heart of what is now Iraq, reaching north through Syria and southern Turkey.

The origin and much of the history of the Hittites is unclear, however it is known that they formed a mighty empire around 1600 BC that bought-about the downfall of the then powerful Babylonian empire of southern mesopotamia. Despite this conquest, the main focuse of the Hittites was trade rather than war, and with their geographical location they facilitated trade through the meopotamian region from Egypt to Greece.

The Egyptians regarded the Hittites as barbarians, and the two empires fought a protracted war between about 1300 and 1200 BC for control of the lands of Palestine and Syria. These wars weakened both empires, and the Hittites never fully recovered However the Hittites survived for several hundred more years, until they were absorbed by the Assyrians.

In this Month's Conquest game, you assume the role of the great Hittite leader Mursilis, as you work to establish a great empire of your own. Will you chose the path of trade and commerce, or simply grow your empire through warfare? Will you propser and rule the region, or become weak and be assimilated?
