Image that is used for this game
The game is delayed this month, but to make up for it I set the difficulty to the highest level - SID! The map is Archipelago+ (80% ocean makes it +), and you will get to play one of the better Archipelago civs, the Byzantines! While the 80% ocean makes land more scarce, the # of AI civs is increased to 8; however, please read the section describing the civs below as half of them will be Minor Civs. Good Luck!

As always, have fun playing the GOTM and we hope you join us in the postgame discussions!

New Players

Welcome to GOTM! Please note our no-replaying rule. If you want to enter the competition, don't replay any turns. Feel free to discuss your game with other players, but ONLY in the spoiler threads that we'll open in this forum.

Besides the normal open, we sometimes provide an easier save (the conquest save) and an extra-hard save (the predator).

Special Notes for COTM79

Minor Civs - 4 of the 8 AI civs have been modified to be Minor civs. This means they can not build extra Settlers beyond the 3 that they start with, and they can not build Galleys. They can still build Curraghs, and the more advanced naval units, so if they are still around in the later part of the game, they may play a more active part.
  • Bonus Units: You start with 2 Curraghs ready to do your bidding.
  • Bonus Gold: You start with an extra 100 gold.
  • Bonus Techs: You also have knowledge of Pottery.
  • Other Bonuses: You also receive the Open Level Bonuses.

Software Versions

To play this game, you require version 1.22f of Civilization III Conquests.

Special notes for C3C

NoAIPatrol Setting: There has been a lot of discussion regarding the barb behavior in C3C and how the NoAIPatrol flag controls that behavior. For the COTM competition it is highly recommended that all players set the NoAIPatrol flag to 0 to permit fairly consistent barb behavior across all player's games. This is done by opening the "conquests.ini" file in your favorite editor, adding the line "NoAIPatrol=0" to it, and saving.
