Image that is used for this game
Back to a slightly easier level this month, so you have something easier to play if you don't fancy the current high difficulties of the current Warlords and vanilla GOTMs. You're playing the Dutch on a custom continents map, so you get the chance to play with the powerful Dutch sea-based unique unit, the East Indiaman.

As always, have fun playing the GOTM and we hope you join us in the postgame discussions!

New Players

The Newbies' Guide to Getting Started tells you how to get set up to play GOTMs as well as explaining the competition rules. Please note our no-replaying rule. If you want to enter the competition, don't replay any turns. Feel free to discuss your game with other players, but ONLY in the spoiler threads that we'll open in this forum.

Choose your Game

Besides the normal contender, we sometimes provide an easier save (the adventurer save) and an extra-hard save (the challenger).

Below are the details for the saves we are providing for this game. You can choose to play and submit any one of these:

Adventurer (the easy save)

The adventurer starting save has been changed to make your game a bit easier. However, if you submit an adventurer game, you won't eligible to win any of the medals or fastest finish awards when the results are published.

These are your adventurer bonuses:

  • Archer For additional defence, your warrior has been replaced with an archer
  • Worker You have a worker (sharing a tile with the settler)
  • The Wheel Your clever worker has discovered the wheel for you

Contender (the standard save)

This is the save that most people play. If you want to enter the competition with a normal game, then download and play this one.

Contender bonuses:

  • None.

Challenger (the extra-hard save)

Play this save if you want an extra challenge. Your entry will be marked out as a contender entry when the results are published, so you'll get extra kudos.

These are your challenger equalizers:

  • Dead warrior Your settler and warrior have had an argument, which finished when the settler killed the warrior. You start with only a settler.
  • 3600BC The argument lasted 10 turns. Your game starts on turn 10 at 3600BC (4000BC = turn 0). Your settler is still in the same place, having done nothing (except kill the warrior). Of course all the AI civs have doubtless been busy building their first cities and getting on with their games.
