Image that is used for this game

This month you will have the chance to do some role-playing inspired by George R.R. Martin's Songs of Fire and Ice series. The game is set in the Seven Kingdoms on the continent of Westeros. The map is a standard sized terra map modified to a pangea, so a bit larger than a normal pangea. Keen observers will note some similarity to the map of Westeros presented here. No prior knowledge of the series is necessary, (nor will it help you).

You will play as Robb Stark. You are Organized and Charismatic, and start with all technologies that precede advancing to the Classical Era. The Organized trait gives you +100% when building lighthouses, courthouses, and factories, as well as -50% civics costs. The Charismatic trait gives you +1 happy per city, and Monuments and Broadcast Towers each give an additional +1 happy. An additional benefit is that promotions require 25% less XP. Your unique unit is the Musketeer, which has the same specs as the musketman it replaces except gets two movement points instead of one. Your unique building is the Salon, which replaces the Observatory and provides a free artist specialist in addition to the benefits of an observatory.

You have entered the game of thrones, and when you play the game of thrones… you win, or you die. You will lead the north, and take House Stark to supremacy… or else.

The game will start in the Classical Era against 9 AI. The starting city for each civilization has been pre-settled, as has your capitol, Winterfell. All of these cities come completely equipped with city walls and castles. Note, Tywin Lannister of House Lannister and Queen Cersei of King's Landing are working together as a team, and start the game at war with the Dothraki. Thus, you will see only 8 rivals listed in the Victories screen. That's all you need to know. Good luck, and have fun!

IMPORTANT: This game must be played with the BtS 3.19 patch, and the BUFFY mod version 3.19.003 for Windows players, MACBUFFY for Mac players.

As always, have fun playing the GOTM and we hope you join us in the postgame discussions!

New Players

The Newbies' Guide to Getting Started tells you how to get set up to play GOTMs as well as explaining the competition rules. Please note our no-replaying rule. If you want to enter the competition, don't replay any turns. Feel free to discuss your game with other players, but ONLY in the spoiler threads that we'll open in this forum.

Choose your Game

Besides the normal contender, we sometimes provide an easier save (the adventurer save) and an extra-hard save (the challenger).

Below are the details for the saves we are providing for this game. You can choose to play and submit any one of these:

Adventurer (the easy save)

The adventurer starting save has been changed to make your game a bit easier. However, if you submit an adventurer game, you won't eligible to win any of the medals or fastest finish awards when the results are published.

These are your adventurer bonuses:

House Stark's loyal support of the Night Watch is rewarded, and barbarians will be prevented from entering your borders. Winterfell has the Great Wall.

NOTICE: For BOTM47, all participants are eligible to play the Adventurer save if they wish, but doing so will render your game ineligible for medals or fastest finish awards as always.

Contender (the standard save)

This is the save that most people play. If you want to enter the competition with a normal game, then download and play this one.

Contender bonuses:

  • None.

Challenger (the extra-hard save)

Play this save if you want an extra challenge. Your entry will be marked out as a contender entry when the results are published, so you'll get extra kudos.

These are your challenger equalizers:

The Lannister's have defamed House Stark as skin-changers, and convinced the small folk to regard you as abominations; barbarians will ONLY enter YOUR borders, since all AI capitols have been granted a Great Wall.
