Johann Gutenburg, German Civilization

In this production of the Great Thinkers BOTM65, Johann Gutenburg will be portrayed by Bismark, and controlled by you, the player. His opponents will be Great Thinkers from the history of other nations. The thing that gives this game a little twist, is that each Great Thinker will start with an additional technology that is somehow related to their historical deeds. For example, you will start with Hunting and Mining, as Germany always does, but in addition start with the technology of the Printing Press.

You will face 7 opponents who, like you, have been gifted with a starting tech that is associated with that personage. Try and guess what they are from the leader names you meet!

You will play on a Custom_Continents map with low seas. There are 4 continents, each with 2 civilizations on it. Rumor has it that extraterrestrials have visited your planet to conduct biological experiments, and there is rumored to be evidence of this in a place known as Area 51. But maybe its just rumors.

Gutenburg's UU is the Panzer, which replaces the Tank, but is better.

Gutenburg's UB is the Assemby Plant, which replaces the Factory, but is better. Gutenburg is Expansive and Industrious, EXP: +2 health per city. Double production speed of Granary and Harbor. 25% faster production of Workers. IND: Wonder production increased 50 percent. Double production speed of Forge.

IMPORTANT: This game must be played with the Beyond the Sword patch 3.19, and the BUFFY mod version 3.19.003 (Windows). MACBUFFY for Mac players. This is the latest version of the BUFFY MOD.

As always, have fun playing the GOTM and we hope you join us in the postgame discussions!

Choose your Game

Besides the normal contender, we sometimes provide an easier save (the adventurer save) and an extra-hard save (the challenger).

Below are the details for the saves we are providing for this game. You can choose to play and submit any one of these:

Adventurer (the easy save)

The adventurer starting save has been changed to make your game a bit easier. However, if you submit an adventurer game, you won't eligible to win any of the medals or fastest finish awards when the results are published.

These are your adventurer bonuses:

  • You will play on Warlord difficulty, but starting units will be the same as on Noble level.
