So here we are at the 100th anniversary of the Conquest of the Month competition. Who would have thought it? Certainly the longevity of this competition bears testimony to the depth and variety that drives us to "play one more turn" over and over again. So what is in store this month....?

...Well, I thought we might do something a little bit different in this game, just to mark the auspiciousness(?) of the occaision. You will play Russian Roulette (of sorts) with an unusual start position. At least one of our playing customers might recognise this start from an SGOTM in the ancient history of that competition. This is not the same map.

This is a flat earth map - there is no X-wrap (You can't walk off the edge and reappear on the opposite edge in any compass direction). Barbarians are set to roaming (and this is relevant). Oh yes, one small point I nearly forgot to mention.... you can't build settlers...

This scenario therefore plays as a One Built City (OBC) variant. You can of course capture as many opposing tribe cities as you like. Various OBC games have been played, and two of the best are in the SGOTM back catalogue if you are looking for advice. The only advice I will give is that settling in place doesn't look to be a great option....

I am not evil by nature, and so I can assure you that this is a perfectly playable map, and I hope you have as much fun playing it as I had devising it.

Finally, a big HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! to COTM, and best wishes for a long and happy future.

As always, have fun playing the GOTM and we hope you join us in the postgame discussions!

Special notes for C3C

NoAIPatrol Setting: There has been a lot of discussion regarding the barb behavior in C3C and how the NoAIPatrol flag controls that behavior. For the COTM competition it is highly recommended that all players set the NoAIPatrol flag to 0 to permit fairly consistent barb behavior across all player's games. This is done by opening the "conquests.ini" file in your favorite editor, adding the line "NoAIPatrol=0" to it, and saving.
