Welcome to the 162nd Conquests Game of the Month. This game was created by Captain_Jack.
In COTM_162 you take the helm of England in a Deity level contest. This is an opportunity to show that you are able to navigate the tricky waters and bring H.M.S. Britannia to dominance. There are several changes to the rules that are designed to give you a fighting chance.
First is a new wonder:
Stonehenge: This mysterious structure may be built after the discovery of Masonry. It will promote the spread of Druidic rituals throughout your land increasing the general happiness and stimulating a population growth mimicked by the creation of a granary in each of your cities worldwide. These pagan practices will be eliminated by the adoption of monotheism and those pseudo-granaries will then disappear, so it is not equal to the Pyramids. This replaces the Mausoleum of Mausollos and the Ai can and will build it. Probably before you at the Deity level, but who knows?
Next is a new unit that is available only to the English:
Dragoons (4/4/2): Available at Gunpowder, these heavy mounted units are mobile musketman that dismount to fight, and can trigger a golden age. Their nags are mostly draft horses, so saltpeter is the only resource required and as an added bonus they treat all terrain as road. They will not upgrade. Cost is 60 shields, same as for Musketmen, but they have significantly more offensive punch and were quite useful in trial play. This unit is unique to the English, but you must survive to the Middle Ages to build it.
And finally a slight change to the traditional English unique unit:
Man-O-War (4/3/5): This dreaded English frigate has been given a bump on defense. Its notable feature is that it may enslave enemy warships, though that NEVER happened in extensive trial play. Rule Britannia.
Good luck to everyone, and I hope you enjoy the game.
The normal changes to the Conquests rules apply to this game: Iron locations are fixed, and Workers instead of Settlers can be popped from Goody Huts. In addition to this, the following changes have been made to terrain causing Disease in order to limit the impact of chance on the competition:
- Flood Plains do not cause Disease
- Jungles and Wetland have their Disease level lowered from 50% to 25%
- Knowledge of Sanitation cancels Disease in Jungles and Wetlands

Special notes for C3C
NoAIPatrol Setting: There has been a lot of discussion regarding the barb behavior in C3C and how the NoAIPatrol flag controls that behavior. For the COTM competition it is highly recommended that all players set the NoAIPatrol flag to 0 to permit fairly consistent barb behavior across all player's games. This is done by opening the "conquests.ini" file in your favorite editor, adding the line "NoAIPatrol=0" to it, and saving.
