Augustus Ceasar, Rome
To celebrate the month of August, you get to play as Augustus Ceasar of Rome. You will face 7 opponents who with one exception, like you, are nasty back-stabbing warmongers. Just do it. You will play on an Inland Sea map with high seas. There are some modifications that might impair travelling. But all civs are accessible by land and by sea. No kidding... trust me!
August's UU is the Praetorian, which replaces the Swordsman, but is LOT better with strength of 8 instead of 6.
August's UB is the ummm, whatever... does it matter? LOL August is Industrious and Imperialistic, and frankly I can't be bothered to tell you the details of what that means. civfanatics has plenty of places you can find that out. Besides, you can just kill them all and not give it a second thought.
IMPORTANT: This game must be played with the Beyond the Sword patch 3.19, and the BUFFY mod version 3.19.003 (Windows). MACBUFFY for Mac players. This is the latest version of the BUFFY MOD.
As always, have fun playing the GOTM and we hope you join us in the postgame discussions!
New Players
The Newbies' Guide to Getting Started tells you how to get set up to play GOTMs as well as explaining the competition rules. Please note our no-replaying rule. If you want to enter the competition, don't replay any turns. Feel free to discuss your game with other players, but ONLY in the spoiler threads that we'll open in this forum.

Choose your Game
Besides the normal contender, we sometimes provide an easier save (the adventurer save) and an extra-hard save (the challenger).
Below are the details for the saves we are providing for this game. You can choose to play and submit any one of these:

Contender (the standard save)
This is the save that most people play. If you want to enter the competition with a normal game, then download and play this one.
Contender bonuses:
- None.

Adventurer (the easy save)
The adventurer starting save has been changed to make your game a bit easier. However, if you submit an adventurer game, you won't eligible to win any of the medals or fastest finish awards when the results are published.
These are your adventurer bonuses:
- You will play on MONARCH difficulty, but starting units will be the same as on Immortal level.

Challenger (the extra-hard save)
Play this save if you want an extra challenge. Your entry will be marked out as a contender
entry when the results are published, so you'll get extra kudos.
These are your challenger equalizers:
- You will play on DEITY difficulty, but starting units will be the same as on Immortal level. AND I took away the wheat that you see in the start screen since I added that for faster gameplay but if you play deity you probably want a more normal start.
